University of South Alabama
Strada Patient Care Center
Mobile, Alabama
The Strada Patient Care Center accommodates several of the University of South Alabama’s, School of Medicine outpatient clinics. The project centralizes several existing outlying clinics into a single facility with the potential for future growth to provide a state of the art facility for the sub-specialty clinics adjacent to the hospital.
A standard clinic module was developed to dramatically increase efficiency, patient throughput and capacity while reducing the exam room count. The design provides an effective layout that allows physicians, nurses, staff and patients to share ancillary service spaces to efficiently use and conserve resources. A central lobby, reception, and waiting room are shared by the clinic modules while a centralized testing lab, radiology department and office/administrative space throughout, support the physicians and staff.
The building was designed to respond to the site overlooking a park, creating a pleasant experience while waiting for their appointment. A central check-in and check-out station increases the number of patients through the clinic while dramatically reducing the need for large waiting areas. The design creates a more pleasant and efficient experience for patients, staff and physicians.
