Ribbon Cutting: UAB Shelby Biosciences Research Building

Williams Blackstock Architects was honored to join the University of Alabama at Birmingham and our project partners for the ribbon-cutting of the Shelby Biosciences Research Building last week!

The eight-story, 228,735-square-foot facility brings together researchers from UAB’s Marnix E. Heersink School of Medicine and the Department of Psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences. By connecting biomedical and behavioral research in one location, the building creates opportunities for collaboration across disciplines.

The facility includes wet and dry laboratories, shared research cores, and flexible spaces that encourage interaction among researchers, students, and trainees. Designed for adaptability, these spaces can support changing research needs as scientific priorities and technologies evolve.

Research conducted in the building will span areas including cancer, neuroscience, mental health, aging, and chronic disease. Together, the people and programs housed there will contribute to UAB’s ongoing work to advance discovery and improve health.

We are grateful to have worked alongside UAB and a dedicated team of partners to help bring this project to life. Congratulations to everyone who helped reach this milestone!
