This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming freshman students from Samford University’s School of the Arts, Department of Architecture and Interior Design. As part of Professor Jim Griffo’s Survey of the Professions course, the visit introduced students to the many pathways and possibilities within the design industry — from architecture and interior design to planning, graphics, and project management.
During their visit, students heard from members of our team who shared insights about their own career journeys, the collaborative nature of our firm, and the variety of markets we serve — from civic and higher education projects to commercial, healthcare, and housing. A brief presentation highlighted several recent projects and the “big ideas” behind them, followed by a tour of our studio and open discussion about design culture, education, and professional growth.
These early opportunities for connection are invaluable — giving students a firsthand look at what it means to work in a creative, multidisciplinary firm while allowing our team to encourage the next generation of design professionals.
We’re grateful to Samford University and Professor Griffo for including Williams Blackstock Architects in this year’s firm visits and look forward to seeing where these students’ curiosity and passion for design will take them
