WBA: Giving Back by Mentoring
At WBA, giving back to the community is one of the firm's core values. We understand that as professionals we need to share our success and skills with the community. We are proud of our very own Jeremy Cutts and Sharon Hughes who volunteer as mentors for the Birmingham chapter of the ACE Mentor Program of America.
“I am honored to work for a company that allows me to mentor and invest in the lives of these students. It is great to see them so excited about the career that I am truly passionate about.”
Along with other professionals in the area, they mentor local high school students throughout the school year and guide them on projects relating to engineering, building and design. These projects include planning city layouts, designing roads and building a gingerbread house.
In an urban planning exercise, the students' neighborhood revitalization proposed design.
The students put their design and building skills to use in a friendly gingerbread house competition.
“It’s remarkable that students have the opportunity to be exposed to professionals in the building design industry. I didn’t meet an architect until I was in college, so to be able to meet and have conversations with the people I wanted to be would have been invaluable.”
