vestavia hills wald Park

Vestavia Hills, Alabama

Located on 32 acres the new $16.6M Wald Park has opened as part of the larger Vestavia Hills Infrastructure and Community Spaces Plan. A larger community space was created complete with amphitheater, playgrounds, running trials, Aquatic Center and Baseball Complex, where everyone can come together and play.

Designed to envelop the surrounding area to reinforce the community feel, natural stone and exposed steel match nearby structures such as the Vestavia Hills Chamber and The Library in the Forest.

The Grand Lawn became the heart of the park’s design. It’s a place where people can gather for festivals, have a picnic or throw a Frisbee. More than 7,500 cubic yards of material was moved to create this community space. In addition, rather than having the park tucked away off Highway 31, the park was brought closer to the road so anyone driving by could have a visual connection to The Grand Lawn and to reinforce the sense of community and fun.

The baseball complex features three grass fields, batting cages, a field house, and a dedicated Miracle League Field. The redesign of Wald Park was focused on creating a greater sense of community and connectivity within the existing park.  The centerpiece of the baseball field renovations was the new Miracle League Field - which acts as the anchor for baseball within the new complex.  It was important to showcase the community’s commitment to inclusivity by placing the Miracle League athletes in the heart of the park.

The Aquatic Complex boasts both a competition pool and a family-style leisure pool, locker rooms, restrooms, concessions, and covered dining area. Kids of all ages can play on the playground equipment, pools, baseball fields, or take a jog around the pathways that surround the park.
