The design concept was to reinforce the library’s connection to nature as it overlooks a beautiful park with huge oak trees. The project included the interior design for a new addition that doubled the size of the library and also renovating the interior of the existing library to carry the interior design concept throughout.

The design for the library addition created an axis from the existing library entrance into the new library where there was a second entrance to serve as the large community meeting room after hours. The design expands and reorganizes the library to include more stack space and a patron lounge, study areas, a 300-seat multipurpose room, and smaller meeting rooms to encourage expanded library activities as well as community use.

The library overlooks a beautiful park filled with over 100-year-old oak trees, so the interior design draws upon the natural beauty of the site for inspiration.A blue carpet stream connects the old and new library helping to define this access from each entrance through the library.The blue carpet stream transitions to other carpet colors to reflect the banks of the river and grass areas defining traffic paths and key areas of the library. The lobby areas have large skylights and are sculpted in neutral white to frame various activities and reinforce the axial connection with portals framing key library zones of activity to subtly reinforce and help with wayfinding. The furniture design selection features bright colored accented furniture pieces to provide color and excitement contrasting against the clean white interior space. Glass walls provide transparency and visibility through the structure bringing in daylight and creating an open, active space where people can see people and enhance community engagement and awareness. The interior design creates an attractive, warm, inviting and colorful space that attracts people and serves as a hub of activity for the community.
